About Our Guests
Dr. Alex Rich is the Executive Director and Chief Curator of the Museum and a Florida Southern College Professor of Art History. In addition, he is also Chair of the Department of Art History and Museum Studies, holds the George and Dorothy Forsythe Endowed Chair in Art History and Museum Studies, and is the Director of the Melvin and Burks Galleries at Florida Southern College. Dr. Rich is a specialist in Modern and Contemporary Art History, with a particular focus on European and American art of the 19th and 20th centuries. He earned his Ph.D. in Art History from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, and his A.B. from Dartmouth College.
Dr. Kristen Carter earned her Ph.D in Art History and Theory from the University of British Columbia. Before joining Florida Southern as an Assistant Professor, she taught modern and contemporary art history at UBC and Emily Carr University of Art and Design. She is a specialist in modern and contemporary art history, with a particular focus on American art in the 1960s and 1970s. Her research interests include modes of viewership, participation, subject formation, and institutional critique with an emphasis on post-1968 artistic praxis and pedagogy.
Jeffrey Boe is both an art historian and a theatre designer. He studied at the University of South Florida, where he earned a BA in Theatre Design and an MA in Art History. He serves Florida Southern College as an adjunct Art History instructor and as the Technical Director for Branscomb Auditorium. He supports College music, dance and opera productions with scenic and lighting designs, and also collaborates with Lakeland’s Imperial Symphony Orchestra and Florida Dance Theatre. He is particularly interested in the history of architecture and decor and, as a third-generation Floridian himself, in the art and culture of tourist zones and the tropics.
